I'm not sure if I can handle another Warlocks gig. The band was the tightest I've ever seen them and sounded big, even with the latest departure of long-time members Laura Grigsby & Corey Lee Granet. But the crowd sucks! There's a reason why Los Angeles has the worst reputation for fans and crowds being nothing but "scenesters" because we are. These particular "scenesters" are pretentious and unappreciative. They go to specific gigs and somehow haven't figured out how to make eye contact, clap, or smile. These traits can be learned in early childhood and, if practiced regulary, stay with you for eternity. I can't stand these people and neither can you, for now we'll call them "the dark crowd", apologies to all Goths. They frequent shows like BRMC, BJM, Morning After Girls, and The Warlocks. All of the bands mentioned are faves of mine, but their fans are lame and ruined the vibe. Next time I'm gonna focus on taking pictures of these fuckers and post them with funny-positive captions like "It's my Birthday" or "This band is faaaaantastic". I'm so pissed right now.
Darker My Love are the brilliant lovechild of The Jesus and Mary Chain and their brooding noise meets the driven pop of RIDE. They are super-loud with humungous guitar sounds and thundering drums. I still can't believe they played first, especially after watching the average Oranger. Wow what a great band name! What the hell does "Oranger" refer to? Do I care? The basic rock 'n roll band sound from San Francisco played well but it's all too familiar and generic. It's 2006 and bands still continue to form at an astronomical rate with the intention of...nothing special. I just need something different from a band I've never heard of.
